Direct Election of the Secretary of State

Constitutional Issues:

Preservation of Constitution

Plank 9.  Limiting Overreaching State Government

We recognize that the sovereignty of this State and its citizenry has been imperiled and threatened by the ongoing overreach of state elected officials and agencies. We therefore call for the enforcement of Article 2 of the Texas Constitution and restoration of our liberty by the following: (a) through (f)

Amend:  Add (g)

(g) The Texas Secretary of State shall be elected directly by the people of Texas, and the Governor shall have no authority to appoint this officeholder; all vacancies shall be filled exclusively by special election and limit the Speaker of the Texas House to two terms to uphold the Texas Constitution’s principles of popular sovereignty and separation of powers, ensure full accountability in the administration of elections and vital records, prevent executive overreach that undermines election integrity and citizen rights, and fulfill the Republican Party of Texas mission to protect children and families through transparent and accountable governance.
