Add: The Republican Party of Texas opposes any proposal to create an appointed statewide prosecutor position that would duplicate or supersede the constitutional duties of the elected Attorney General and locally elected district attorneys. The Texas Legislature must instead provide full funding and staffing to the Office of the Attorney General’s public corruption and criminal investigations divisions to enable the elected Attorney General to prosecute violations of state law wherever local district attorneys decline to enforce it.
